GRAFENWOEHR, Germany ‐ The 928th Contracting Battalion has a new commander.

Lt. Col. Jerel R. Grimes, assumed command July 14 during a ceremony here. He succeeds Lt. Col. Robert C. Murray.

Murray relinquished command of the 928th CBN to Grimes after two years of continuous leadership with the contracting battalion and Bavaria Regional Contracting Office. Col. Douglas Lowrey, 409th Contracting Support Brigade commander, presided over the ceremony.

"Lt. Col. Murray, your legacy here will be everlasting," Lowrey said. "You can honestly say 'I built this unit.' My only wish is in the near future you look back on these past two years fondly and remember the positive impact you have had."

"With change comes opportunity and so we welcome Jerel Grimes as the new battalion commander," Lowrey continued. "Jerel is no stranger to the Expeditionary Contracting Command and I have personally observed him over the past five years and every single time I walk away impressed."

Grimes takes over and will be dual hatted as the commander of the 928th CBN and office chief of the Bavaria Regional Contracting Office.

"I'm truly humbled and appreciative to be provided this opportunity." said Grimes. "I'm looking forward to carrying on this tradition of excellence."

During his remarks, Murray thanked his family and delivered a short, yet heart-felt goodbye to the Soldiers, civilians, and local nationals of the 928th CBN and RCO-Bavaria.

"As I have always said, it's really all about you guys," said Murray.
