Camp Arifjan, Kuwait--Lieutenant Colonel Russell J. Foster assumed command of Army Field Support Battalion-Kuwait during a change of command ceremony here July 2.
Foster assumed command of the battalion from Lt. Col. Earl B. Schonberg Jr., who commanded the battalion since July 2014.
Colonel Robert "Andy" Dawson, the 401st Army Field Support Brigade commander, presided over the ceremony.
Schonberg led his team through the final push of retrograde of equipment from Afghanistan while simultaneously gearing up to push equipment forward in accordance with U.S. Army directives. He was also responsible for overseeing Army Prepositioned Stock 5 equipment that is strategically positioned so brigade combat teams can fly to a theater and fall in on the equipment they need.
In his remarks, Schonberg credited great teamwork and the dedication of the Soldiers and Civilians who make up the battalion.
"Earl has led with passion, dedication and commitment second to none," said Dawson. "You were the man behind the scenes leading the effort, making it happen … delivering readiness."
In welcoming Foster, Dawson said "I challenge you, just like I challenged Earl last year, just make it better. Make it better for your Soldiers, make it better for your Civilians, and, as a result you will make it better for the units you support."
"LTC Schonberg has achieved a high degree of excellence during his time in command," Foster said. "I look forward to continuing that tradition."
Schonberg's next assignment takes him to Army Sustainment Command headquarters at Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois.
