Fort Eustis, VA -- McDonald Army Health Center's Medical Company 1st. Sgt. Elizabeth Perez was recently honored as the recipient of the Yorktown Patriot Award for 2015 by the Comte de Grasse Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
The award recognizes outstanding women on active duty who are dedicated and who exemplify the society's motto, "Service to God, Home and Country.
In speaking of her personal goals, Perez, a single mother of three, has shown a commitment to helping those in need.
"As a mother, I want my kids to realize that they can do all things through Christ and that they continue with their faith. I just want to raise them the right way," Perez said. "As a leader, I want my Soldiers to know that you can always give back. Regardless of how busy we are with work, we can still take time outside our daily tasks for our community."
Perez is one of four first sergeants at Fort Eustis directly responsible for creating the First Sergeant Diamond Council, which was established to promote the quality of life for enlisted personnel assigned there. The Diamond Council has also created a Soldier Care Fund, a non-profit organization established to receive, manage and distribute charitable funds to local Soldiers, Airman, Guardians, and their Families.
McDonald Army Health Center's Command Sergeant Major Timothy Allen states that Perez has performed her duties in an exceptional manner. Her patience and compassion will serve her well within Army Medicine and guarantee her continued success as a leader. As a demonstration of her ability to serve her community, the Diamond Counsel Club, and McDonald Army Health Center.
Though her schedule is oftentimes full, Perez actively seeks time to give back to others.
"As a volunteer, I want to be able to provide as much help as I can," said Perez, crediting her father for being a source of inspiration and instilling in her a desire to give back to her community.
"No matter what was going on in our home, my father always found time to give back to the kids in our neighborhood… he has been a huge role model for me," Perez said.
An example for others to emulate, Perez remains dedicated to her faith, country and family. This honor of being selected as a Yorktown Patriot is indicative of her commitment to continue providing a stable family life for her children, and her efforts in helping to achieve quality of life for her Soldiers and members of her community.
