WASHINGTON (June 26, 2015) -- Gen. Raymond Odierno, U.S. Army chief of staff, presented the 2014 Deployment Excellence Award Outside the Continental United States to Logistics Readiness Center, or LRC-Italy, June 10.

The ceremony took place in the Pentagon Auditorium as part of the chief's Combined Logistics Excellence Award program which recognizes outstanding contributions in supply, maintenance and deployment support. The Deployment Excellence Award, or DEA, was one of several awards presented during the ceremony. All recipients received a tour of the Pentagon as part of the recognition.

LRC-Italy in Vicenza provides full-spectrum deployment support operations to tenant units such as the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, U.S. Army Africa forces, and other units within its area of operation. The support begins in Vicenza with staging, marshaling, container movement, equipment inspections and other preparatory actions.

The LRC set the stage for deploying units to load and offload equipment, establish communications, organize Soldiers, conduct briefings and receive rations, expendables and construction supplies.

In a very busy 2014, the LRC-managed Personnel Alert Holding Area and Arrival and Departure Area Control Group managers supported deployments in support of Operation United Assistance, Operation Active Fence, Operation Atlantic Sentry, Operation Atlantic Resolve and dozens of airborne training operations involving several thousand Soldiers over the course of the year.
