FORT BENNING, Ga., (June 17, 2015) -- Fort Benning is taking names for runners who wish to try out for the post Army Ten-Miler team. The 31st annual Army Ten-Miler will be held at 8 a.m. Oct. 11, starting and finishing at the Pentagon.

Lori Smith, a sports specialist with the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation's Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Branch, invites anyone who is an active duty, reserve, or National Guard Soldier stationed at Fort Benning to try out for the post team.

"We are looking to field one team this year. Either an all-male team or a mixed team. Typical times for male competitors are around 60 minutes and for females, it's around 70 minutes. Last year we had four guys on the team running sub-60 minutes," Smith said.

This year's qualifying races will be held at the Santiago Fitness Center on Sand Hill.

They will start at 6:30 a.m. on July 17, Aug. 1 and 14.

"There are only three post qualifiers - no others will be held at any time or for any reason. I will take the best times from those three qualifiers and select the team. Runners selected must get their command's approval and be willing to meet with the post Army Ten-Miler team for group runs and physical training sessions," Smith said.

Smith said past competitors told her representing Fort Benning in the race is motivating.
