Current MERS-CoV situation in Korea (한국내의 현 MERS 사황)

Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, a serious respiratory disease with common symptoms in patients that include fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties, has recently affected individuals within the Republic of Korea with more than two dozen cases reported and at least two deaths.

Public health authorities in Korea are working hard to keep the outbreak contained. All MERS patients identified have acquired their illness in hospital settings where they came in direct or indirect contact with MERS patients before they were diagnosed and isolated.

USFK medical leaders are working closely with ROK public health authorities as well as CONUS military leadership to monitor and contain this MERS outbreak in Korea.

The 65th Medical Brigade Preventative Health Team in joint effort with the Eighth United States Army and United States Forces Korea Command Surgeons and the Defense Health Agency will provide more updates as more information becomes available.

Strict observation of personal hygiene is the key in stopping this disease.
