JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Washington -- (June 2, 2015) Soldiers and Civilians from the 902nd Contracting Battalion welcomed their new commander to the unit during a change of command ceremony May 19 here at Watkins Field.

The unit welcomed Lt. Col. Toney Stephenson and said goodbye to Lt. Col. Jason Jefferis during the ceremony.

The two officers will switch roles within the Mission and Installation Contracting Command. Stephenson assumes command of the 902nd CBN and will support a JBLM workforce of more than 60,000 military and civilian personnel. Jefferis will take-on Stephenson's previous assignment as the deputy chief of staff for operations at the MICC headquarters in San Antonio.

The change of command featured the traditional passing of the colors from the outgoing 902nd CBN commander to the ceremonial host, Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Gabbert, commanding general of the MICC, and then to the incoming 902nd CBN commander.

After acknowledging the great legacy the 902nd CBN the built during the last two years, Gabbert said, "Jason, you have commanded with distinction. You have left your mark on this organization, the installation and the community."

He continued, welcoming Stephenson to the unit and encouraged him to maintain the high standard and improve upon the systems already in place.

Stephenson expressed his appreciation for this opportunity and noted, "I look forward to building this organization as we move forward to 2025. My job is to help orchestrate this team toward the future, and it starts with us doing this together."
