KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany - Need to get your adrenaline fix? K1 Waldseilpark Froehnerhof, a ropes course just a short car ride from downtown Kaiserslautern, might have just enough thrills to satisfy even the craziest individuals.

Imagine yourself standing on a four-by-four-foot wooden platform high up in the trees with the sun cracking through the branches. You are buckled into a climbing harness wearing a safety helmet and protective gloves. Before you stand nine tires suspended by a metal rope and your objective is to get to the other side.

K1 opened in June 2013, and since then, countless people have tackled the park's diverse set of above-ground challenges. This year, K1 is expanding its course offerings to include another generation of dare devils - kids, specifically ages three and up.

"Before all the time, we were thinking adrenaline, adrenaline, more higher, more crazier," said Thomas Dorr, owner of K1 Waldseilpark, "But we forgot a little bit about the kids."

Dorr and his partner Marcus Theobald want to change that.

"I want to make [our] park more kid-friendly," Dorr said. "This year, we start up with kid's courses including zip-lining for kids," said Theobald.

Dorr explained that having a younger child inspired him to cater to the smaller daredevils. "My daughter could finish this whole course... we have to please the children," Dorr said.

Whether a visit to K1 is for unit team building or a weekend outing for the family, this is a place not to be missed. The park is large enough to host 150 people at one time.

You can swing right out to K1 and enjoy a whole bunch of fun at good prices as well. For military, K1 accepts VAT forms. The park is open Monday through Sunday with an array of hours. They even make exceptions from their regular open hours if booked in advance, especially for military unit event.

If you plan on making K1 an all-day event why not make it a barbecue. The park allows patrons to bring their own barbecuing equipment. If you come to the park empty-handed though, Dorr and his team serve up a variety of food options are including pizzas, sausages, various drinks, and of course, ice cream for a hot day.

"We want to bring people closer to nature," Dorr said.

In fact, doing this course would not only make you at one with nature, but also teach you to never give up. Some of their courses are difficult but completing them gives you a satisfying feeling.

"By the end, 99 percent of people are happy," said Theobald.

Whether you're interested in swinging 75 meters through the air, or want your kids to enjoy the thrills of zip-lining across a forest backdrop, K1 is the place to go.

Just the facts

Located in the middle of Kaiserslautern and Enkenbach-Alsenborn, K1 is a quick drive for most. By car, take the A6 and at the interchange "Kaiserslautern" take the exit towards "Mehlingen." At the sign for "Eselsfürth," turn right towards Enkenbach-Alsenborn and follow the signs to "Sportpark Rote Teufel."

Buses run frequently as well to the park. Check the German bus schedule online.

The prices at K1 are reasonable. For adults, the cost is 19 euro for three hours of climbing, young adults ages 13 to 17 pay 17 euro, and children cost 10 euro. If you wish to become a season visitor, the price is 99 euro. K1 has multiple discounts as well.

Want to make your day at K1 free? Dorr and his team have set up a difficult ropes challenge called "Brahaus Challenge." If you ascend up a ladder to a tree house situated 25 meters above the ground in under 90 seconds, your park entrance is free.
