KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany - The 405th Army Field Support Brigade commander and command sergeant major, Col. Todd Bertulis and Command Sgt. Maj. Stanley Richards, visited the Army Strategic Logistics Activity Charleston (ASLAC), May 4, which is part of the 406th Army Field Support Brigade out of Charleston, South Carolina.

ASLAC is preparing to send equipment to the European Activity Set (EAS), Coleman Barracks worksite, Mannheim, Germany. The Chief of Staff, Army (CSA) directed the establishment of the ABCT in Europe by Sept. 15, 2015, as an Army Materiel Command-managed program under Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS) which have five locations throughout Europe and in the United States.

ASLAC conducted joint technical inspections and receipt of 2,954 pieces of equipment from 3/3 ID at Fort Benning, Georgia, which was shipped to ASLAC from February through March 2015.

The 405th AFSB command team visited the site to view current procedures for equipment that will arrive in Europe. The visit included a command brief, update on ASLAC operations in support of EAS and a tour of the facilities. The visit helped the commander and command sergeant major gain confidence in the maintenance work being done in support of EAS. The tour also included a look at paint booth operations as the EAS set is converted from desert to woodland colors. All equipment is expected to arrive in Europe in August 2015.

"As we took a tour of the facilities, it was obvious that the ASLAC team has truly embraced this mission and understands the importance of their efforts on behalf of the stakeholders here in Europe," stated Bertulis.

The visit is important to ensure the combined logistical efforts between the 406th AFSB and 405th AFSB to have the 4,807 pieces of equipment ready for shipment to Mannheim, Germany.

The 405th AFSB and 406th AFSB are two of seven AFSBs under the Army Sustainment Command.
