FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (April 24, 2015) -- The last roll call for three engineer Soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation's freedom in 2014 was held Thursday.

The U.S. Army Engineer School hosted a Fallen Sapper Memorial at the World War II Chapel and Engineer Memorial Grove in tribute to Maj. Gen. Harold Greene, Combined Security Transition Command -- Afghanistan International Security Assistance Force commander, Sgt. 1st Class Ramon Morris and Spc. Wyatt Martin, both assigned to 43rd Engineer Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

The event is held to remember the service and pay tribute to the sacrifices of Soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the last year and to all Soldiers whose names are inscribed on the memorial wall, said Brig. Gen. Anthony Funkhouser, USAES commandant.

"At the wall, our eyes don't stop just at these three names," he said. "As we look up and down the wall we are reminded of many of the losses of our nation that our Families have endured."

As Funkhouser extended condolences to all the Family members of the fallen, he said that every commander who has lost a Soldier in combat builds relationships with the Soldier's Family for life.

"You are not alone in your grief," he said. "We come together today to comfort one another, to remember and to celebrate our comrades as one community and one Family."

"We are drawn together not by the death of these fine warriors, but by the impact they had on their units, Families and friends," Funkhouser added. "Here on this hallowed ground, at the Engineer Memorial Grove, their legacy will live on."

Following the ceremony, attendees visited the Sapper Memorial Wall where Family members and fellow engineers traced names of fallen Soldiers.
