JOINT BASE LEWIS McCHORD, Wash. -- 2nd Brigade Support Battalion "Mustangs" assigned to2-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 7th Infantry Division participated in this year's Philip A. Connelly Field Competition for food service, 14 April.

The objectives of the Philip A. Connelly Field Competition are to promote and improve Army food service through awareness with incentives, competition and media attention and encourage and recognize deserving units for superb performance.

"Three other dining facilities competed in the Garrison category, but we were the only ones to participate in the Field Connelly competition," said Sgt. 1st Class Marlin Carter, Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Lancer Dining Facility. "This was from a result of other strenuous training and no-fail missions."

There are two categories to the Philip A. Connelly competition, which include the Field Connelly and Garrison. Tuesday kicked off the installation competition which landed 2nd Brigade Support Battalion as the installation winners.

"Winning this competition has given us the opportunity to compete in the FORSCOM competition, said Carter. "Here we will represent Joint Base Lewis-McChord and hope to advance to represent the Department of the Army."

Although it was a great learning experience, Soldiers from 2nd Brigade Support Battalion did say that it surely wasn't an easy three weeks, but the ending result was very much worth all the hard work and long nights.

"I've been in the Army for 21 years and this is my very first Field Connelly," said Sgt. 1st Class Carter. "I can tell you that I definitely learned a lot, whether it was from setting up the field environment to planning for the competition."

The competition ended with the Soldiers giving each other gratitude for all of their hard work to win this competition.

"I can't really say that it was an easy time," said Spc. Jeremy Young, a food specialist assigned to 2nd Brigade Support Battalion "but I love going to the field and working hard, so for me it was all good."
