HOHENFELS, Germany-- There's a lot of preparation that must get done to get training rolling for exercises such as Saber Junction 15. Observer Coach-Trainers from the U.S. Army's Joint Multinational Readiness Center here trained Armenian soldiers how to react to vehicle rollovers to prepare them for maneuvering in the Hohenfels Training Area, April 6.
The HMMWV Egress Assistance Training (HEAT) is designed to train soldiers on the effects of rollover and conduct drills that will provide the knowledge and ability to react properly during emergency situations.
"Here, the terrain is unpredictable, so when units sign for vehicles we make them come through mandatory training," said Sgt. 1st Class Joshua Sandlin, OC-T in charge of the HEAT training.
The realistic training gives Soldiers the ability to experience a rollover without damaging equipment or harming lives. As soldiers step into the Humvee, they're locked in, buckled up, and then wait for commands from the trainer.
This device will reinforce seat positioning, wearing seatbelts, demonstrate the feeling of being disoriented, and the effort that is required to execute rollover and emergency egress procedures, Sgt. 1st Class Sandlin said.
"So in the event that we have a rollover we can react appropriately and save lives," said Armenia Army Maj. Vahan Avagyan.
