AMSC Leadership Symposium

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, Nov. 24, 2008) -- Seats are filling up quickly for the Army Management Staff College's 4th Annual Leadership Symposium, scheduled for Jan. 27 through 29 at the college's Fort Belvoir, Va., campus.

"Navigating New Challenges" is the theme of the symposium, which is open to all federal government employees. Registration will close Dec. 17 or once all available seats are filled.

The AMSC Leadership Symposium is the only forum of its kind for the Army Civilian Corps. It is a professional development forum designed to highlight leadership topics relevant to the Army Civilian Corps.

According to Col. Garland H. Williams, AMSC commandant, the symposium has become a staple in education for at least the Department of the Army.

"Now we are getting to the point where it's becoming something that's high in demand," he said.

Attendees will have an opportunity to hear new perspectives on leadership, network as they process information and apply it to their organizations and be the first to hear updates about key initiatives in the government.

They will hear from subject-matter experts about topics including Base Realignment and Closure, National Security Personnel System, Civilian Deployments, Army Civilian University, and Army Civilian Senior Leader Development.

In addition, world-renown guest speakers will conduct workshops on topics ranging from effective communication to finding balance in your life.

MaryPat Begin-Ortiz of IMCOM said, "As a mentor, this symposium has hit the mark and will benefit the civilians I work with."

Williams said he hopes that attendees will leave "motivated to tackle change in their organizations, rededicated to the Army mission and invigorated to propel positive change in their organizations."
