FORT CARSON, Colo. -- Army Community Service at Fort Carson and the Hiring our Heroes Program hosted a military spouse networking reception and job fair March 11-12, 2015.

All told, 55 employers collected more than 600 resumes at the reception and fair. As of Monday, 298 spouses were offered jobs.

"Our mission is to bring employers in and connect military spouses with jobs," said Elizabeth Gorkowski, coor?dinator for the Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Program. "We travel the country, and even to Europe, to set up hiring fairs."

The Hiring our Heroes Program hosted a networking reception March 11 at a local hotel.

"The reception is a more relaxed atmosphere that allows spouses to get their feet under them and feel out different opportunities so that the next day they can target the businesses they want to go to," Gorkowski said.

Employers set up booths inside the Special Events Center the following morning to converse with potential employment candidates.

Gorkowski explained that all employers at the fair, including companies such as Federal Express, USAA, Lowes and La Quinta Inns & Suites, passed a vetting process and met several criteria, including current local employment openings.

Garrison Commander Col. Joel D. Hamilton and Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Clinton J. Reiss attended both the reception and job fair.

"It was great to have such a big commitment from our military leadership," Gorkowski said. "They interacted with our spouses and supported our efforts."
