KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany. -- After three days of intense competition, the 409th Contracting Support Brigade selected its 2015 noncommissioned officer of the year.

Staff Sgt. Darius Simpkins, training NCO, 409th CSB, earned the top prize.

"I am honored and proud to compete in this competition along-side two great NCOs, and now to represent the 409th CSB at the next level," said Simpkins.

The event, held here Feb. 18-20, had Soldiers competing in events including urban orienteering, a formal board, an essay, rifle marksmanship and a 12-mile road march.

The competitors were evaluated on their knowledge of several subject areas including, leadership, appearances and military bearing. Simpkins outscored Staff Sgt. Armando Dominquez, 903rd Contracting Battalion and Staff Sgt. Sara Craig, 928th CCBn.

"This competition was a true reminder of what we as Soldiers and NCOs are called upon to do, being tactically and technically proficient," said Simpkins.

Simpkins will move forward to compete in the Army Contracting Command NCO of the year competition later this year.
