FORT SILL, Okla. (March 12, 2015) -- A Soldier from Fort Sill has been named the Southern Regional Medical Command (SRMC) Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) of the Year.

Staff Sgt. Jordan Wright, a Reynolds Army Community Hospital (RACH) lab technician, was awarded the first-place trophy after winning the Best Warrior competition March 2-5, at Fort Polk, La.

Wright competed against eight other NCOs from the region in the annual competition. He earned the right to attend after being selected as the noncommissioned officer of the quarter for Reynolds in December.

The competition evaluated NCOs on a variety of skills over a four-day period to determine who would go home with the honor of NCO of the Year.

Wright was judged on his skills in the Army Physical Fitness Test and Physical Readiness Training, day and night land navigation, weapons qualification, a 50-question multiple choice test on basic Army skills, an essay on the impact of the NCO Corps on the Army, and a leadership reaction course. The course tested each competitor's ability to lead a squad of Soldiers through various challenges in an obstacle course-like environment.

Wright will go on to compete for the Army Medical Command NCO of the Year later this year.

SRMC Command Sgt. Maj. Jayme Johnson and the Reynolds Army Community Hospital Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Oates were on hand to present Wright with the trophy, as well as a Meritorious Service Medal for his achievement.
