The Vicenza Mako Sharks swim team, led by Head Coach Alicia Sendmeyer, began the season with only 14 swimmers but eventually grew to a powerful group of 33 amazing kids.

The Sharks hit the pool Feb. 28--March 1 for the end-of-season, two-day European Forces Swim League championships. The meet was held at the Netherland's Olympic Training Swim Center (Nationaal Zwemcentrum de Tongelreep) in Eindhoven, Netherlands. This was the final of meet of the year, and brought the best of the best in EFSL to the pool.

The swimmers trained and competed all year hoping to achieve a qualifying time, in order to earn the chance to compete at "Champs." This year 18 Mako Shark swimmers qualified to compete -- EFSL consist of 16 teams and more than 400 swimmers, all competing to be the "best of the best" in Europe.

The Mako Sharks who qualified for this year's EFSL championships were Ethan Amis, Lucy Chapman, Kimberly Christensen, Kylie Davenport, Maddie Davenport, Lyndsey Gaddy, Tyler Hale, Ben Heath, Jacob Heath, Alyson Hermon, Andrew Hermon, Isabel Mesa, MacKenzie Pilson, Conor Piskator, Laney Reardon, Alex Sendmeyer, Paige Sendmeyer and Reagan Toro.

This year the team brought home a total of 52 medals and ribbons from the EFSL championship. Several Mako Sharks finished in the top 10 of their age division. Davenport garnered a first overall. The nine-year-old swimmer achieved "best of the best" in her age group for the event.

The 2014-15 swim season has come to an end, but that does not mean the training and the learning stops. The Mako Sharks will take a few weeks off, before returning to the pool for spring training in early April.

Using great memories of this season as motivation, the swimmers will start working hard to get ready for next year.

We would like to thank all the families, the community and especially the swimmers for making this season great and memorable!

If you have a swimmer from the ages of 7-19 who is interested in joining the Mako Sharks swim team, contact the gym on Ederle, who can guide you to the Vicenza Mako Sharks swim team staff.
