FORT SILL, Okla. (March 6, 2015) -- As 4th Battalion, 3rd Air Defense Artillery prepares to deploy, unit leaders held a town hall meeting to inform and answer questions from Soldiers and their families.

The meeting was held at Goldner Fitness Center here and included around 25 agencies from the Lawton-Fort Sill community.

With close to 300 Soldiers and family members on-hand for the event, it was important to deliver as much information to them as possible and allow them to visit with the agencies that are offered to them on- and off-post.

Some had their first chance to learn about benefits offered on-post and gain a better understanding about the resources available to them.

"I learned about all of these wonderful services here like ACS (Army Community Service) and the wellness center, I also learned there are places to go for supplies and even college," said Spc. Wesley McGlamry, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4-3rd ADA.

Representatives from the agencies were happy to be there and explain to the audience what they can do for them.

"I hope Soldiers realize the Army Wellness Center is not just some place to go if you want to lose weight or are on the overweight program, we offer fitness testing, and we can also help you evaluate how your fitness planning is going," said Hannah Squiers, wellness center staff, whose programs apply to Soldiers and their families. "There are a lot of other great programs available, and it is all free and very easy to make an appointment."

The meeting also offered s important information to family members about the deployment and the mission.

"I learned a lot about what to expect out of this deployment, where they are going, where my husband wil l be staying and basically just getting the reassurance that he will be taken care of. It is also great to know there are great ways to communicate back and forth when he is deployed," said Danielle Fernandez, a Soldier's wife.

Keeping the Soldiers and their families informed and ensuring that they are prepared for this deployment is the No. 1 priority of the battalion.

By holding the meeting, leaders hope Soldiers and their families can gain the confidence they need to know that the unit and the Lawton-Fort Sill community are here to support them.
