FORT POLK, Louisiana -- (March 3, 2015) Staff from the Mission and Installation Contracting Command at Fort Polk, Louisiana, hosted their second business outreach event for 63 business contractors Feb. 18 at the Fort Polk Mission Training Center.

Lt. Col. Thomas Kelly, the MICC-Fort Polk commander, provided a briefing at the acquisition forecast open house on future contracting opportunities at Fort Polk that may help businesses plan for upcoming opportunities.

Installation representatives from the resource management office and directorate of public works provided guidance and information on how government funds are streamlined and how the projects are initiated and compiled.

The Small Business Administration representative, Jo Ann Lawrence, presented information on SBA's role and how it helps people get into business, stay in business, and grow and prosper. A presentation by Joy Phelps, the General Service Administration representative, elaborated on how GSA is not merely committed to working with small business, but how it is the administration's priority to expand opportunities for small business. Roy Paul of the Louisiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center briefed on the center's role in generating employment and improving the general economy of Louisiana by assisting business firms in obtaining and performing contracts under the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, state and local government.

"The acquisition forecast served as an excellent opportunity for the small business community to work with Fort Polk and to interact and socialize with other businesses for subcontracting opportunities at the base as well," Kelly said.

The next acquisition forecast outreach event at Fort Polk takes place June 17.
