CAMP BULLIS, TEXAS. -- Command Sgt. Maj. Stephen Norris, 3rd Battalion, 379th Regiment. (LS), received the "Command Sergeant Major Salley" award, here Feb. 7, 2015.
"It is a very distinct honor to receive this award and to be held in high regard of company like Command Sgt. Maj. Salley and the company of others who have received this award since its inception," Norris said.
The 80th TC commissioned the award to recognize the battalion command sergeant major who most diligently carries out his or her duties and responsibilities.
According to the criteria, the award is presented annually in honor and remembrance of Command Sgt. Maj. Morris Salley Jr., who served at the command when it was the 80th Division (Institutional Training).
"It is hard to accept the award because our success as non-commissioned officers is because of the hard work of our Soldiers," Norris said. "My role as a leader and command sergeant major is to do what I can to ensure success of Soldiers by providing the motivation and mentorship to become our future leaders."
"The Command Sergeant Major Salley award reflects the kind of leader who is on point for his or her Soldiers all the time, not just when they have to be," said Command Sergeant Major James Wills, 80th TC senior NCO. "In looking at the readiness posture of the 3/379th Regiment Battalion, it's clear to see that Command Sgt. Maj. Stephen Norris's management of Soldiers is about taking care of our greatest asset, people."
