CAMP BULLIS, Texas -- Staff Sgt. Jordan Stubblefield, 100th Training Division, and Spc. Rachel Bower, 102nd TD, won the 80th Training Command Best Warrior Competition here in the non-commissioned officer and lower enlisted Soldier categories, respectively, Feb. 5-7, 2015.
"It is an honor, especially among these competitors, to win as best warrior," Stubblefield said. "I could not have made it without my sponsor who propelled me through."
"I feel great," Bower said. "I encourage other Soldiers in my unit to do their best and compete to better themselves."
Spc. Charles Reding, 800th Logistical Support Brigade, was the 80th TC lower enlisted Soldier runner-up, Sgt. First Class Laurie Huenke, 94th Training Division and Staff Sgt. William Fleming, 800th LSB took first place in their respective divisions.
The BWC is open to Soldiers within the 80th TC who have proven themselves worthy based on their performance and selection by senior leadership within their respective units.
"Command sergeants major need to look in their formations for those Soldiers they feel would be great competitors," said Command Sgt. Maj. Arlindo Al Almeida, 94th TD senior NCO. "We are Soldiers first, it does not matter what you do in the Army, the Best Warrior Competition brings out the best."
The competition consists of ten different events some of which include the Army Physical Fitness test, land navigation, weapons qualification, combatives, a written exam, a board appearance and an obstacle course.
"I am extremely proud of each competitor and the NCO leadership that made this event happen," said Maj. Gen. A.C. Roper, 80th TC Commander." The bottom line is the best warrior competition is about growing our future leaders. It brings out the best in each competitor, and that benefits our units and our communities."
"The entire competition envelops so much," said Sgt. First Class Huenke. "These competitions really tap into a Soldier's potential."
Stubblefield and Bower each received an Army Commendation Medal and trophy from Brigadier Gen Steven Ainsworth, division commander, 94th TD accompanied by Command Sgt. Maj. James Wills, 80th TC senior NCO during an awards ceremony at an auditorium on post.
"I enjoy being around other great Soldiers and NCOs from across the 80th," said Stubblefield. "We need to take back this level of enthusiasm and intense training to our units."
Sgt First Class Huenke, Staff Sgt. Fleming and Spc. Reding received Army Achievement Medals and trophies.
Stubblefield and Bower will represent the 80th TC in the Army Reserve BWC later this year.
