FORT BENNING, Ga., (Jan. 28, 2015) -- New to the Army community? The Army Family Team Building program offers monthly courses to help Soldiers and their spouses learn Army culture and resources for a smooth transition.

Courses include Military Knowledge (Level K), Personal Growth and Resilience (Level G), Leadership Development (Level L) and the Junior Leadership Seminar.

Level K introduces students to basic terms, acronyms and resources needed to successfully transition into the Army lifestyle.

Level G targets emerging leaders within the Army community and focuses on communication, time management, stress management, acknowledging change and more.

Level L offers training to enhance the professional growth and leadership development opportunities of Family members, especially those who might assume advisory and mentoring roles within the community or unit.

The Junior Leadership Seminar is a four-day course for the spouses of lieutenants, captains and first sergeants to help them integrate into their new roles as leaders. The course combines several AFTB modules and Family Readiness Group leader training.

Jane Bresko, AFTB program manager, said the Junior Leadership Seminar consists of training modules taught by Army Community Service with basic information about the Army, personal growth and leadership skills.

"They need to know the chain in command, social etiquette, rules and protocol and what Family readiness groups are," Bresko said. "The biggest thing they should know is what community resources are available to them on the installation. As leaders it's important for them to have these resources for their FRGs."

Bresko said all AFTB courses are taught by volunteers ranging from Family members to retirees and active-duty Soldiers. Volunteers are always needed to instruct the courses and training will be provided.

"I'm a spouse of 23 years and every time I sit in a class I learn something new because of the knowledge of our volunteers," she said. "They need to complete the first two levels of our AFTB classes which is Level K and Level G and complete the instructor training course."

Additional classes include Formal Functions Made Easy, which provides tips on military ball etiquette including proper attire, seating and meals and more. The next class will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Army Community Service Auditorium.

The next Junior Leadership Seminar will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 23-26 in McGinnis-Wickam Hall. AFTB levels are taught on a monthly basis at the ACS Building, Building 7, 7117 Baltzell Ave. For more information, call 706-545-2794 or visit www.benningmwr.com/army-family-team-building.
