CAMP ZAMA, Japan (Jan. 28, 2015) -- The second "It Takes Community" session hosted by U.S. Army Garrison Japan was held Jan. 23 at the Camp Zama Community Club.

Col. Joy Curriera, commander of USAG-J, said these sessions were started to have a more deliberate event dedicated to informing the community on specific topics. The "It Takes a Community" session replaced the formerly held Commander Information Exchange program.

The theme of the session was: It takes a community to travel Japan and the Pacific Theatre. Curriera said this theme was a way to "really spark the interest of the entire community."

"Everybody would have a desire to take part in."

There were several guest speakers to include Staff Sgt. Dawan Alexander from Yokota Air Base and Petty Officer 2nd Class Tiffany Drain from Naval Air Base Atsugi, who briefed on topics such as space available travel procedures, different passenger categories for travel and available destinations.

"Space-A travel is out there," said Drain, "and it is there for you."

Several other subject matter experts discussed topics such as anti-terrorism awareness and health issues when traveling.

"The event was very educational," said, one of the attendees, Avis Carter, "the best way to find out the information is to come and get it for yourself."

After the session, the attendees lined up at the many booths set by the Camp Zama Moral Welfare and Recreation to sign up for trips and find out more information about upcoming tours and available rental gears.

The quarterly Camp Zama Community Night event sponsored by MWR was kicked off right after the "It Takes a Community" session. Community members played the game Family Feud, with themed Asian and Pacific Theatre questions in conjunction with the "It Takes a Community" session topics.
