ANAD workforce is generous, dedicated

By Col. Brent Bolander, ANAD CommanderDecember 18, 2014

ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. -- As we make our way through the holiday season, let us reflect on the many blessings and good will which has occurred right here at Anniston Army Depot. After 28 months, I am still honored to serve as your installation commander, which continuously affords me the opportunity to learn and observe.

I am constantly amazed at the depth of your commitment and compassion. We've opened our doors to distinguished visitors and worked long hours to meet the warfighters' needs.

Two weeks ago, we participated in Christmas parades throughout the local area as we rolled down the main streets of Talladega, Jacksonville, Oxford and Gadsden. This seems minor, but these are the communities many of our workforce reside in and most citizens rarely come close to a Stryker vehicle.

We are nearing the close of this year's Combined Federal Campaign and despite budget cuts and other restraints, you gave liberally to charitable organizations. Because of your generosity, many of them are able to continue assisting others. This week, you responded to the needs of others by contributions to 192 children in DHR programs. And you didn't stop there; your kindness extended to seven depot families who are experiencing difficult times.

Team Anniston, your generosity has touched the lives of many people. To say thank you seems inadequate.

I don't say this often, but I sincerely appreciate all you do in support of our Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen. They deserve the very best equipment and weaponry possible and it is no secret Anniston's reputation is renowned for the ability to provide that level of equipment.

During this holiday period, I ask you to remember the men and women, both military and civilian, who stand in harm's way. Around the world, many of them may be without the comfort of home or the company of family and friends.

Our freedoms are precious, our military who sacrifice to provide them are honorable and we are grateful.

I encourage you to enjoy this season. Take time off and relax. But, before you depart, look around at those who are in close proximity. If you see a need, bring it to the attention of the supervisors or managers. Help is available. If you travel, remember the rules of the road and keep safety in mind.

On January 5, let's kick the New Year off to a great start with more of the same dedication.

From the Bolander family to yours -- Happy Holidays!
