The U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Leonard Wood has a new top senior enlisted advisor.

Command Sgt. Maj. Tyson Goolsby assumed responsibility from Sgt. Maj. Jason Ibrom Dec. 9, in Lincoln Hall Auditorium.

Col. Andrew Herbst, Garrison commander, said he was thankful Ibrom filled the position for almost two months while in-between command sergeants major.

"I want to thank Sgt. Maj. Jason Ibrom for skillfully and energetically executing the duties of senior garrison NCO during a command sergeant major underlap. He never missed a beat or opportunity to make the lives of our services members, their Families and our great community better each day. He met the challenges of the position with a positive attitude," Herbst said. "I look forward to working with him, as he reassumes his duties as the Installation Emergency Services sergeant major."

Herbst welcomed the new command sergeant major and his Family and said Goolsby's military experience makes him a good choice for the job.

"He has served with distinction for 27 years in a variety of leadership positions worldwide, in peace time and in war, which makes him a perfect fit for the Fort Leonard Wood Garrison command sergeant major," Herbst said.

Goolsby has served as a drill sergeant, gunner and multiple launch rocket system launcher chief, just to name a few.

"I am certain he will come on board quickly and help me and the directors achieve the Garrison imperatives of leading, teambuilding, mentoring and caring, which support the principles of mission command in our organization," Herbst said.

Goolsby thanked his wife and children for moving six times in the last seven years.

"The strength of the Soldier is definitely the Army Family," Goolsby said.

Goolsby said he was honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve on Fort Leonard Wood.

"Today marks the beginning of a tour of duty and responsibility that brings me total joy," Goolsby said. "The questions I have always asked is 'who works for the sergeant major?' The answer is 'nobody." Then I ask 'who does the sergeant major work for?' The answer is 'everybody.'"

Goolsby's most recent assignment was in Fort Hood, Texas, with the 3rd Battalion, 393rd Field Artillery, as the battalion command sergeant major.
