While serving temporary duty in Italy, one Army Contracting Command Soldier found himself repacking his duffle bag and temporarily relocating to the Republic of Gabon, Africa, supporting Central Accord 2015 planning operations.

Maj. Jonathan Brown, 903rd Contingency Contracting Battalion in Kaiserslautern, Germany, was TDY at the 414th Contracting Support Brigade, Vicenza, Italy, when he got the news of the pending change of scenery.

"Maj. Rickey Torres (414th CSB) and I were provided a firsthand, boots-on-the-ground opportunity to perform operational contract support coordination, planning, and identification of logistical gaps alongside multiple requiring activities," Brown said, regarding the Central Accord planning event. "Though the current plan was to leverage the U.S.-Gabon Acquisition Cross Servicing Agreement for logistical support, attending the final planning event provided an opportunity to conduct site visits, market research and provide input in the form of business advice into what will be a multinational exercise in the event operational contract support is needed."

According to the U.S. Africa Command, Central Accord is a joint multi-national exercise in which the U.S. and its counterparts from the African continent partner to promote regional cooperation while increasing aerial resupply and medical treatment capacity. The exercise will be conducted on or about February 18-27.
