FORT JACKSON, S.C. (Dec. 11, 2014) -- Fort Jackson officially began the holiday season with the annual Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony Dec. 3 in front of the Post Headquarters.

Maj. Gen. Bradley Becker, Fort Jackson's commanding general, spoke to community members about the spirit of the holiday season.

"I would ask everyone to remember the spirit of the season and that is the spirit of giving," Becker said. "All of us are very fortunate to have all that we do, but there are so many people right here in our own community who are less fortunate and many of those folks are veterans."

After the tree and menorah lighting ceremony children were greeted by Santa Claus, who had a special escort from the Fort Jackson Fire Department. The Fort Jackson Christmas Tree and Menorah, along with lights decorating Post Headquarters, will remain on display until Jan. 7.
