RICHMOND, Ky. -- Scranton native Richard Hansen was recognized during a recent visit to the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant (SCAAP) by Gen. Dennis L. Via, commander of Army Materiel Command (AMC).

Hansen, who has served as the SCAAP Commander's Representative since 2009, was presented one of AMC's highest outstanding personnel awards. The Louis Dellamonica Award recognizes those civilian AMC employees who, through their service, dedication and professionalism, have greatly helped AMC achieve its mission.

"My family home was just a few blocks from where I now work at SCAAP. I used to walk by this facility everyday going to and from school," says Hansen, "of course, never realizing that someday I would return and be part of the leadership here," says Hansen. I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish here at SCAAP. It was a great honor to be named a Dellamonica Award winner, but even a greater honor to have it presented to me by General Via."

Hansen retired from the Navy in 2007 after 23 years of service. During that time, he rose through the enlisted ranks and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring as a Lieutenant. His wife, Pina Hansen, is a current Dupont Borough Council Member and a native of Pittston Township.

SCAAP, a government-owned/contractor-operated facility since 1953, specializes in the manufacturing of large caliber metal projectiles for the Army, Navy and Marine Corps.

AMC, one of the Army's three primary commands, is the Army's premier provider of materiel readiness to the total force, across the spectrum of joint military operations. It has a workforce of more than 65,000 military and civilian employees with highly developed specialties in weapons development, manufacturing and logistics. If a Soldier shoots it, drives it, flies it, wears it, eats it or communicates with it, AMC provides it.
