SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin A. McKeller assumed duties as the 15th command sergeant major of Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command during a Change of Responsibility ceremony here today.

Maj. Gen. Susan A. Davidson, commanding general of SDDC, officiated the ceremony.

McKeller assumed the highest non-commissioned officer role in the command from Command Sgt. Maj. Cedric Thomas, who served in this position since January 2012.

Before this assignment, McKeller served as the command sergeant major for SDDC's 598th Transportation Brigade in Sembach, Germany.

McKeller is a native of Hampton, Va., and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Dix, N.J. After completing Basic Combat Training, he attended the Watercraft Operators Course at Fort Eustis, Va. Since that time, he has held a variety of positions from motor vehicle operator, to platoon sergeant to first sergeant.

The U.S. Army's change of responsibility ceremony is a traditional event with rich military traditions and heritage. Similar to a change of command ceremony, the change of responsibility serves the dual function of rendering honors to the departing command sergeant major and providing official recognition of the transfer of responsibility to the incoming command sergeant major.

SDDC is a unique Army command headquartered at Scott Air Force Base that delivers world class, origin-to-destination distribution solutions. The command is composed of approximately 2,400 military and civilian surface transportation experts making it possible for Warfighters to have what they need, when they need it.
