Army in Europe to change emergency dialing numbers in 2015

Starting 1 Jan: The U.S. Army in Europe plans to change the on-post emergency dialing number on all USAREUR installations to 112 starting 1 Jan. Installations are switching to a single number to better align with standard emergency numbers throughout the European Union and U.S. Air Force installations in Europe. Extended holiday hours at Rose and Tower Barracks Postal Service Centers

Now-26 Dec: The Rose and Tower Barracks Postal Service Centers will provide extended operating hours as follows:

Mon-Fri Sat (13 & 20 Dec only)

Postal Finance (sending mail): 9 a.m.-5 p.m. None

Parcel Pick Up (receiving parcels): 9 a.m.-6 p.m. 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

NOTE: 24 & 31 Dec, Parcel Pick-Up only 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. No Postal Finance Service (sending mail) will be available. Facilities will be closed on 25 Dec and 1 Jan.

Flu shots/mist available

Those who have not received a flu shot can head to the Army Health Clinics for their mist or shot. The best protection against the flu is to get vaccinated! Walk-in hours for flu vaccination in Grafenwoehr and Vilseck: 8 a.m.-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-11 a.m. on Fridays (excluding Training Holidays.)

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

This time of year, with all the holiday parties and festive occasions, many partygoers will be drinking. If you're celebrating with alcohol this holiday season, The Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) has a message for you: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. Due to the increase in drunk-driving-related fatalities around the holidays each year, law enforcement agencies across USAG Bavaria will be out in force 12 Dec-1 Jan actively searching for drunk drivers. If you will be drinking, do not plan on driving. Plan ahead; designate a sober driver before the party begins. If you have been drinking, do not drive. Call a taxi, phone a sober friend or family member, use public transportation or call your unit CQ or Staff Duty.

Collecting for Critters

Animal shelters in and around the Oberpfalz, as well as in Eastern Europe are in desperate need of old blankets, towels, small rugs, and food, food, food. They also take expired first aid kits. If you want to donate your used items please contact me at Livingston.23@t-online.de.

High-visibility vests now required inside vehicles

A new regulation now makes it mandatory to have a high-visibility vest inside vehicles in Germany. The vest can be red, yellow or orange, but must comply with German or European standards. Drivers found without a vest in their vehicles may be fined. The vest must be inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle and not in the trunk. Only one vest per car is required, but one vest for each person is not discouraged. Fines can be as high as 1,300 euros.

Transition, higher education and accredited financial counselors are standing by ready to assist Soldiers, as early as 18 months before exiting the military.

Rose Barracks power outage

13-14 Dec: From 11 p.m. on 13 Dec to 4 a.m. on 14 Dec, the connection of a new distribution panel for the Health/Dental Clinic to the existing transformer station will cause a power outage for approximately 5 hours. During this time the traffic lights (intersection clinic/theater), the street lights on Constabulary Blvd (Commissary parking up to Bldg 305) and the parking lights on the clinic parking lot will be out of order and Bldg 225, 250 (Health/Dental Clinic), Bldg 301, Bldg 354 (Theater), Bldg 303 (AFN), Bldg 305 (HQ), Bldg 304, Bldg 314, Bldg 306, Bldg 316 and Bldg 252-256 (Crystal Inn) without electrical power.

We are currently looking for dedicated individuals with a desire to volunteer. Current Volunteer positions include: office assistants, special events and briefing volunteers. Reconnection Workshops

The American Red Cross is offering Reconnection Workshops to support and ease transitions associated with Army life along with training and deployments. These are confidential small-group modules, led by licensed mental health professionals. The workshops focus on building skills that enhance the likelihood of positive reconnections among family members, as well as the successful reengagement of the service member in civilian life, by increasing interactions and developing additional sources of support. Used Car Sale

Now-8 Dec: Family and MWR is sponsoring a used car sale. They will auction 17 vehicles made by popular car manufacturers. The cars may be viewed at Camp Algiers, Bldg. 2080, Mon-Fri, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Vehicles are sold to ID cardholders, as is; there will be no guarantees on any vehicle sold. Customers successful in the bidding process must remove the vehicle within 5 days after sale with proof of USAREUR registration. Viewing Dates: Now - Dec. 8, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Lot is open for exterior vehicle inspection. Inspection date: Dec. 5, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Mechanic with keys will be on site.

5K Reindeer Run/Walk

13 Dec: Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Tower Barracks Fitness Center. A set of jingle bells

will be given to all registered runners. Santa arrives by fire truck for photos at 9:15 a.m. At 9:45 a.m. is the 400 meter Snowman Sprint and at 10 a.m. starts the 1 mile Reindeer Romp or 5K Reindeer Run. There is no cost, however runners are encouraged to bring a cash donation for the "CAUSE FOR PAWS" (Weiden Tierheim) and the "Dollars for Scholars" (NMS junior student leader tuition program). Brunch and photos with Santa

13 Dec: An all-American brunch (pancakes, biscuits & gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, etc.) will be made even better by the arrival of Santa. Brunch is 1-2:30 p.m., Santa will be there 1-4 p.m. Gift and candy donations are welcome. At the Tower Barracks USO, Bldg. 150.

13 Dec: The War Eagle Foundation is hosting a pancake breakfast to support the Soldiers, families and community of the 1st Squadron, 2CR. The breakfast is at the Vilseck Elementary School cafeteria, 9-11 a.m. (open door.) Cost is $5 for 12 and under; $7 for over 12.

Christmas Dinner at the USO

25 Dec: A hefty and delicious Christmas dinner will be served at the USO. Serving starts at 3 p.m. Gift cards will be raffled at 4 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to help serve, cook and clean for the Soldiers and families.

Army Wellness Center

Want to get fit or lose weight? Have you hit a roadblock or just getting started? There are a multitude of resources available at the Army Wellness Center. They offer metabolic testing by appointment to determine caloric intake; basic nutrition classes; and on-going assistance to achieve weight management. You can also attend classes on basic nutrition, sleep hygiene, weight management or make an appointment for a fitness assessment. Tower Barracks gates

Now-5 Dec: Short delays and detours to be expected at the gates due to the quarterly maintenance of the pop-up barriers, traffic arms and tire-shredders. DPW will post detour signs where necessary. Please, follow detour signs and/or gate guard instructions.

Tower Barracks: Shiloh Avenue between Gates 1 and 3

Now-20 Dec: Short traffic interruptions/detours to be expected during the concrete work for the new Army Family Housing units. Traffic will be detoured via Fredericksburg Avenue and Johnson Street while concrete trucks block through-traffic. Signs will be posted.

LRC early closures

12 Dec: All LRC customer service activities on Tower Barracks and Rose Barracks will close at noon. This includes the Central Issue Facility, Drivers Testing, Personal Property Counseling, TMPs, Installation PBO, Troop Issue/Class II Warehouse, TISA/SSMO/Class I, STAMIS Support, Supply and Services Division, Regional Supply Support Activity, Hazardous Material Issue Center and Food Program Management Office.

CWTSatoTravel Office Closure

12 Dec: The CWTSatoTravel offices Tower Barracks, Bldg 244 and Rose Barracks, Bldg 161 will close at noon on this day. In case of emergency call 99-001-210-877-3357. Normal business will resume on 15 Dec.

JMTC G4 PBO closure

18 Dec: Please be advised that the JMTC G4 PBO will be closed for the staff Christmas party.

LRC command early closure

19 Dec: LRC Bavaria command and staff in Bldg 301 on Tower Barracks will close at noon.

Limited bus services and no-run days

12 Dec: All bus runs originating after noon will not operate with the exception of G-1 (Direct Run, TB PX to RB PX).

24-26, 31 Dec and 1 Jan: No bus services between Tower Barracks and Rose Barracks or to off-post housing areas.

Military Health Clinics closed on Training Holidays

Military health clinics will be closed for patient care on all training holidays. This includes clinics in Vilseck, Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels. If you are in need of medical advice or care on training holidays, federal holidays or weekends, you are encouraged to call the Nurse Advice Line at 00800-4759-2330. This toll-free line is available 24/7 to answer your health-related questions and direct you to the appropriate level of care. In case of emergency, please go to your nearest host nation hospital.

Closure of Central Issue Facilities in Vilseck and Hohenfels

15-19 Dec: The CIFs in Vilseck and Hohenfels will be closed for mandatory inventory.No customer service can be provided during this week. Customers are kindly asked to plan their OCIE or RFI requirements accordingly. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, 22 Dec. Nativity scenes in Sorghof

6-7, 13-14, 20-21 Dec: Each year, Sorghof (the village outside the Rose Barracks main gate) puts together an excellent exhibition of nativity scenes that could rival any of the more famous shows. Entry is € 2 for adults and € .50 for children up to 14 years. It's held at the large building next to the church in Sorghof.

Ramona Fink Gospel Group Concert

7 Dec: This gospel group will hold a concert in Schlicht (near Vilseck) at the Pfarrkirche St. George. This is the church with the onion dome on the curve in the road across from the bakery in Schlicht. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets ahead are 10 euro and 12 euro at the door. Sorghof Forest-Christmas

20 Dec: Starts at 5 p.m. at the woodland behind the Sorghof Fire Depart-ment (Auerbacher Strasse). Parking is available at Central Yard, beside Church of Sorghof. Events include a Nativity Scene with live animals. Musical Performances by Church-Choir of Sorghof and Brass ensemble of Hahnbach, Traditional Bavarian and English Christmas songs and music with Remona and Jamila Fink, a Musical "Search for Shelter of St. Mary & Joseph," "Silent Night" and sparkling conclusion.

20 Dec: The Russian State Ballet is famous for its outstanding, sophisticated performances, and The Nutcracker is no exception. German-American Kontakt Club

The Vilseck Kontakt Club meets every Friday at 7 p.m. for Stammtisch at the Club House, Rose Barracks Bldg. 301. In 91522 Ansbach: every Wednesday and Saturday 8 a.m.-1 p.m., on Martin-Luther-Platz. ***In addition to the regular fresh produce markets, local farmers offer their fresh goods every first and third Saturday of the month at the farmers market on Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Platz (same opening hours). Great opportunity to buy seasonal produce as fresh as it gets.

In Bamberg: Monday thru Saturday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., on Maxplatz. Closed on Sundays and German holidays.

In Neumarkt: every Thursday and Saturday, in Untere Marktstraße. Thursday 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
