WASHINGTON (Nov. 25, 2014) -- An active weather pattern is in place across the central and eastern U.S. for the middle of the week. A surface low is forecast to develop over the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday along the stalled frontal boundary. This feature will intensify as it moves towards the northeast, and become a nor'easter as it passes the Mid-Atlantic region and New England.

Although the strongest winds will likely remain offshore, widespread precipitation is expected from Florida to Maine. Rain is expected for coastal areas, and snow for the Central Appalachians and into inland parts of the Northeast U.S., which should adversely affect travel on Wednesday.

The latest forecast for tonight and tomorrow is as follows:

TONIGHT: Rain, mainly after 4 a.m. Low around 39. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

WEDNESDAY: Rain before 10 a.m., then rain and snow between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., then snow likely after 4 p.m. High near 39. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
