Yongsan, Seoul, South Korea -- 1st Signal Brigade hosted a National American Indian Heritage Month event at the Dragon Hill Lodge, Seoul, South Korea, Nov. 11, 2014.

In the late 1970s the U.S. Congress enacted legislation and subsequent presidents issued annual proclamations designating a day, a week or a month to celebrate and commemorate the nation's American Indian and Alaskan Native heritage. In 2009 the U.S. established 'Native American Heritage Day,' the Friday immediately following Thanksgiving Day of each year.

"It is a good event to get people to see the plight of native Americans, where they currently stand and where they want to be as a people in the future," said Ralph Hall, the guest speaker from 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command.

"This event was a good opportunity for Eighth Army Soldiers to learn more about American Indians," Cpt. Brent C. Nolan, 201st Signal Company Commander said.

"Mr.Hall covered a lot of information to include showing how much Native Americans have contributed to our nation to include highlighting a number of indians who received the Medal of Honor," he added.
