ANSBACH, Germany -- USAG Ansbach and 12th Combat Aviation Brigade celebrate National American Indian Heritage Month by holding an observance at the Von Steuben Community Center on Bismarck Kaserne, Nov. 6.

The National American Indian Heritage Month observance is used to increase cultural awareness among Soldiers, their families, and civilian employees and recognize the achievements and contributions made by Native Americans in our society, our military, and our nation.

The USAG Ansbach commander Col. Christopher Benson opened the ceremony and the guest speaker was Command Sgt. Maj. Archie Deese.

Deese spoke of his humble beginnings and challenges he faced as he rose through the ranks and being given the opportunity to serve his country. Benson and Kiefer presented Deese with a certificate of achievement for being the guest speaker. Cheryl Bahe, a volunteer, was also recognized by Benson and Kiefer to show their appreciation of her hours of hard work in helping make this observance happen.

The observance was organized by Cheryl Bahe, a community volunteer, the USAG Ansbach equal opportunity adviser, Sgt. 1st Class Robert Forsythe and the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade equal opportunity adviser Sgt. 1st Class James Parker.
