FORT BRAGG, N.C. (Oct. 31, 2014) -- Financial managers and comptrollers from throughout U.S. Army Forces Command convened Oct. 29-30 at FORSCOM's Marshall Hall headquarters here to discuss best practices, new programs and requirements, and share updates and information necessary in providing the financial resources that ensure readiness for FORSCOM formations.
Mr. Phillip E. McGhee, FORSCOM deputy chief of staff, G-8, hosted the summit that gathered G-8 representatives from several commands, corps, divisions, and mission support elements for the two-day information sharing event; including some unit representatives attending via video-teleconference.
Among the summit topics of discussion were; budget, readiness, manpower/force management, audit readiness, and cost benefit analysis.
Lt. Gen. Karen E. Dyson, military deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller [ASA (FM&C) ], and Maj. Gen. Thomas A. Horlander, deputy ASA(FM&C) for Army Budget, discussed financial information perspectives from Headquarters, Department of the Army.
Maj. Gen. Jimmie Jaye Wells, FORSCOM chief of staff, spoke about the importance of cost benefit analyses and process improvement techniques, such as Lean Six Sigma (LSS). Wells recognized four new LSS certification achievements: Chief Warrant Officer 3 Phil Ranck and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Chris Bodoh earned LSS Black Belts; Chief Warrant Officers 3 Mitch Brannen and Elias Andrades both earned LSS Green Belts.
