The U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Leonard Wood has a new command sergeant major.
On Oct. 23 in Lincoln Hall Auditorium, Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Hatfield relinquished responsibilities to Sgt. Maj. Jason Ibrom.
Col. Andrew Herbst, Garrison commander, said he is going to miss working with Hatfield.
"Command Sgt. Maj. Hatfield serves with distinction. He leads, he builds teams, he mentors and he cares. These are the Garrison Command imperatives for which Command Sgt. Maj. Hatfield exemplified during every troop, Family member and community engagement -- making him a major driving force for positive change in this organization," Herbst said.
In Hatfield's farewell speech, he said he was humbled and honored to have represented Fort Leonard since March, when he took responsibility.
He mentioned several organizations, focusing on how they have helped Fort Leonard Wood during his time as Garrison command sergeant major.
"We have many unsung heroes on this staff who make our piece of earth a little bit better than most," Hatfield said. "As I prepare to depart this fine organization, I wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks for your support, leadership and caring attitude while serving those who serve."
"It's been a busy eight months, and I guarantee it will never slow down. I couldn't have done this without my Family's support. This chapter of my life has been rewarding, fulfilling and blessed," he added.
Ibrom, a military policeman, is the Fort Leonard Wood Directorate of Emergency Services sergeant major and will serve as the Garrison command sergeant major until Hatfield's replacement arrives.
Herbst said he is looking forward to working with Ibrom.
"A quick understudy, Sgt. Maj. Ibrom's positive, contagious attitude makes him the perfect fit for the position," Herbst said.
