Army Issues Request for Proposals for Redstone Arsenal Project

WASHINGTON (Oct. 24, 2014) -- A Redstone Arsenal Combined Heat and Power (CHP)project 'Request for Proposal' was released today.

The project will produce steam required by the installation, plus 160,000 MW-h/year of electric power for dedicated installation consumption. This project is anticipated to include a lease and a 30-year energy purchase authorized under 10 USC 2667 and 10 USC 2922a, respectively.

The cost of power for the CHP project will be at or below projected utility rates.

The large-scale renewable energy project is being coordinated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, Alabama, in coordination with the Office of Energy Initiatives.

Redstone Arsenal is an Army garrison located in the Tennessee Valley in Madison County, Alabama.

The installation has over 70 tenant organizations including the U.S. Army Materiel Command, U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command and the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

Redstone Arsenal is made up of 38,125 acres of land, including 25,860 acres of test areas and supports 34,500 personnel. Redstone Arsenal is a nationally recognized Department of Defense and Federal Center of Excellence focusing on materiel and logistics management, aviation and missile research, development and engineering, space operations, missile defense, intelligence and homeland defense.

An Industry Day is being planned at Redstone Arsenal in November 2014.

A Notice of Intent to Award is anticipated in mid-2015.
