FORT POLK, La. -- On Oct. 7, 2014 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in the District of Columbia, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division's Electronic Warfare Cell was awarded the Association of Old Crows Army Outstanding Unit Award.

The AOC is an organization for individuals who have common interest in the EW, Electromagnetic Spectrum Management Operations, Cyber Electromagnetic Activities, Information Operations, and other related capabilities. The AOC provides a means of connecting members and organizations nationally and internationally across government, defense, industry, and academia to promote the exchange of ideas and information, and provides a platform to recognize advances and contributions in these fields.

"4th BCT, 10th Mtn. Div. received the outstanding unit award issued by the Association of Old Crows for exceptional service and contributions for the capabilities and advancement of the electronic warfare. It's a true testament of the hard work and dedication for all the EW Soldiers within the unit, at the battalion level, even some of the Soldiers as well," said U.S. Army Warrant Officer Bryan Burton, Electronic Warfare Cell chief, 4th BCT, 10th Mtn. Div.

Winning the prestigious award was a culmination of a lot of hard work and team effort.

"The 4th BCT won the AOC based off hard work and determination from amongst the whole EW Cell to include our BN reps and the CREW Master Gunners. We had a small team, so it made it easier to maintain positive control over the program and our team took their job very serious. The work ethics and determination, that was displayed prior to and during the deployment was outstanding," said Sgt. 1st Class Thomas Fuss, Electronic Warfare Cell Non Commissioned Officer in charge, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. "We had a goal to show everyone what EW could bring to the fight and what type of NCOs and Soldiers are involved in this program. Our achievements speak for themselves! The belief in teamwork and knowledge took us the furthest."

With every technological advance, it makes it that much harder for the U.S. military to protect the nation from all forms of attack.

"Electronic Warfare refers to any action that involves the utilization of the electromagnetic spectrum or directed energy to control this spectrum, attack an enemy, or impede enemy assaults via the spectrum. EW is the future to the military's success in my eyes or at least it will play a very important role to our military's dominance," said Fuss "Technology changes every day and the enemy is getting smarter by the moment. Our job as EWs is to deny the enemy the freedom of use of the spectrum and ensure that we have unhindered access to accomplish our missions."
