About 700 law enforcement personnel participated in the 2.3-mile 29th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Oct. 3 to raise money for Special Olympics District of Columbia (SODC).

The race began on the West Terrace of the U.S. Capitol and concluded on the parade field on the Fort McNair portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Runners and walkers were then able to enjoy music and a picnic lunch for their efforts.

The 2014 Torch Run saw participation from 25 different agencies, according to Maria-Nelly Johnson, SODC's director of finance and administration, including the Washington Metropolitan Police Department and other federal agencies.

"People are still always trying to help," she said. "We always have a really good response from our law enforcement community."

Money is generated through registration fees, Johnson said.
