Key enlisted advisor retires after more than 30 years

PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. (Oct. 6, 2014) -- The Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center Military Deputy Director, Col. Scott Turner, and Acting ARDEC Director Barbara Machak, hosted a retirement and farewell ceremony Sept. 26 for ARDEC Sgt. Maj. Dewey Blake, who served in the U.S. Army for more than 30 years.

Blake, an infantryman whose retirement was effective Oct. 1, is holding a Senior Executive Service letter with two ARDEC coins signed by the former ARDEC director, Dr. Gerardo Melendez. The letter thanks Blake for his exceptionally meritorious service to the people and mission of ARDEC from July 2010 to Sept. 30, 2014.

As ARDEC's senior enlisted advisor Blake, provided expert user advice to the director as well as key insights and guidance to ARDEC engineers, essential to developing explosives and armaments supporting both full material release as well as urgent fielding directly into theater supporting joint warfighters engaged in combat operations. Melendez closes the letter by stating, "You have served your country selflessly and with bravery and honor. On behalf of ARDEC, we wish you the very best in retirement and your future endeavors."
