The Corpus Christi Army Depot sold its 40th recapitalized UH-60 Black Hawk, an L-Model, September 29.
CCAD's award-winning Aircraft Production team successfully met customer requirements and schedule, this time by delivering the 40th UH-60L of Fiscal Year 2014. Despite production fluctuations brought on by reduced workload, a hiring freeze, and other fiscal challenges, the depot workforce once again persevered to success. The Army has more than 2,100 UH-60 Black Hawks in the inventory, and the CCAD overhaul program updates the aircraft to the most recent configuration for use by our Soldiers in the field.
The UH-60s are shipped or flown to CCAD where the aircraft undergo a process called recapitalization (recap). CCAD's recap program is one of the most successful programs at the depot due to its efficiency and effectiveness. A team of depot civilians and contractors fully disassemble, inspect, and restore every component to like-new condition, to include all dynamic components such as turbine engines, transmissions, and rotor blades. This isn't just a reset, though. This is how the Army upgrades the existing fleet of early 1980s-era UH-60 A-models to the most recent L-model configuration. They're not new helicopters -- they have just been completely overhauled and updated at CCAD.
At about 42% less cost than buying new, recapitalization is a cost-saving alternative to purchasing new aircraft. As the Cornerstone of Army Aviation Readiness, CCAD provides America's Soldiers and Joint Warfighters with helicopters and helicopter components that are better, faster and cost-effective.
