GEN Odierno to Promote MG Perna to Three Stars

Washington D.C. -- Chief of Staff of the Army, General Raymond T. Odierno, will host a promotion ceremony for Major General Gustave F. Perna at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 26th 2014 at the Pentagon (Apex 1&2 on the fifth floor).

MG Perna is the Army's new Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4. MG Perna oversees policies and procedures used by 240,000 Army Logisticians throughout the world. Previously he served two years as the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/4, U.S. Army Materiel Command, one of the Army's largest commands with 70,000 employees impacting all 50 states and 155 countries. Prior to that he was the Commanding General, Joint Munitions Command, Rock Island, IL, responsible for the lifecycle management of $40 billion worth of conventional ammunition.

MG Perna has served in the Army for 33 years. He deployed three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom / New Dawn, his last assignment in 2010 as the Director of Logistics, J4, U.S. Forces-Iraq. He was responsible for sustainment plans and policies for strategic and operational logistics to sustain coalition and joint forces. Earlier in his career he deployed to Bosnia, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia.

He is a graduate of Valley Forge Military College, the University of Maryland, and the Florida Institute of Technology. His military education includes: Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ordnance Officer Advance Course, Logistics Executive Development Course, Support Operations Course, Command and General Staff College, and Senior Service College.
