FT. BELVOIR, Va. (Sept. 24, 2014) -- The Office of the Assistant Secretary for the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology (ASA(ALT)) connected virtually with members of the Army acquisition community for ASA(ALT)'s first-ever Facebook town hall, "Acquisition Workforce Opportunities," with the top officer in charge of career management. The event was hosted on the U.S. Army Acquisition Support Center (USAASC) Facebook page on Sept. 11.
"I view this event as a great way to interact directly with Army acquisition professionals," said Lt. Gen. Michael E. Williamson in an email to acquisition leaders promoting the event. Williamson is the principal military deputy to the ASA(ALT) and the Army Director, Acquisition Career Management (DACM).
The hour-long session resulted in 18 questions and reached more than 2,800 people--a record for the page. Questions focused on education and training, leader development, Army Acquisition Corps membership, Senior Rater Potential Evaluation, certification, key leadership positions, future technologies and MOS 51C reclassification.
Additional participants included Craig Spisak, the deputy DACM and the USAASC director; and Joan Sable, who oversees daily Army DACM Office functions and responsibilities.
USAASC includes the Army DACM Office, located at Fort Belvoir and responsible for ensuring the career development and Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act certification (training, education and experience) of the Army Acquisition Workforce.
In a message emailed to Army acquisition leaders following the online session, Williamson expressed how pleased he was with the event. "Your questions and comments were thoughtful and wide-ranging, and many will benefit from this sharing of information. My plan is to continue looking for more opportunities to engage directly with you and other members of the workforce, including regular Facebook Town Halls."
