CAMP ZAMA, Japan (Sept. 24, 2014) -- Camp Zama held a Community Resilience Seminar on Friday, to introduce the Camp Zama Retiree Council and recognized "Retiree Appreciation Day, in conjunction with a "Passport to Life" Community Resiliency Fair at the Camp Zama Community Club, here.
The Camp Zama Retiree Council is organized by military retirees to inform the community of the services available to retired Camp Zama community members.
Maj. Gen. James C. Boozer, the U.S. Army Japan and I Corps (Forward) commander, introduced Retired Sgt. Maj. of the Army Kenneth O. Preston, as the guest speaker at the seminar.
Preston said one thing he did when he was a Soldier was to always thank the retirees. All of the services that benefit the Soldiers, civilians and family members today, Preston remarked, are thanks to all of the men and women who have served before.
"Our military services are (what) they are today because of the contributions and sacrifices of our retirees," said Preston.
Preston later presented a presentation to the retiree members and other community members in attendance about retiree services. Preston also talked about other benefits and services that are provided to military community members, such as commissary and exchange services.
The U.S. Army Japan Band played several musical performances during the Community Resiliency Fair, and several other units and organizations set up booths where community members could get valuable information about the different services. They included: Tricare, the Red Cross, the Girls Scouts of America, Outdoor Recreation, Photography and much more.
The Camp Zama resiliency motto is, "Thrive, live with intent. Get involved, reach out and engage."
