Death of a 1st Cavalry Division Soldier

FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Sept. 20 from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Killeen, Texas.

Spc. Jimmy Dwayne Dewitt, 23, whose home of record is listed as Cordele, Ga., entered active duty service in March 2011 as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle System maintainer. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since July 2013.

Dewitt's awards and decorations include an Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

Circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.
