A memorial service, regimental run and regimental ball are a few of the events scheduled for the Military Police Regimental Week scheduled from Monday to Sept. 27.
Leading up to Regimental Week, today and Friday the MP Hire Days convention is happening from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nutter Field House.
The Hire Days event features vendors, universities and job recruiters.
Command Sgt. Maj. Scott Dooley, 14th Military Police Brigade, said the Regimental events are significant for many reasons.
"The Military Police Regimental Anniversary Week is important, because it gives us an opportunity to celebrate our proud history and heritage through key events that include a memorial tribute, Regimental Retreat and the Military Police Ball, which is our capstone event," Dooley said. "It is also an opportunity to forge our future with the Regiment's key leaders through a scheduled Strategic Operational Planner's Conference."
Dooley said he is proud to be an MP because of the role they play in the Army.
"I think all of us take pride in our role as military police professionals and our commitment to assist commanders with preserving the force through a unique set of core competencies that include policing, investigations and corrections," Dooley said. "We are responsible for the protection and defense of our fellow Soldiers, civilians and their Families, and we take that responsibility very seriously. There is also pride in knowing no other military occupational specialty in our Army can deliver those skill sets or that level of service."
Pfc. Garrett Welsh, Company A, 787th Military Police Battalion, 14th Military Police Brigade, agreed. Even though he won't officially graduate from One Station Unit Training until October, Welsh said he already feels a sense of pride while honing his MP skills.
"I chose to be a MP, because my dad is a law enforcement officer," Welsh said. "I am looking forward to being on Fort Leonard Wood during regimental week, because I want to hear more about the difference we have made in wars and in garrison."
His drill sergeant, Staff Sgt. Karla Guillen, Company A, 787th Military Police Battalion, 14th Military Police Brigade, said she is proud of her profession
every single day.
"It's an honor to watch these civilians become MPs. It's motivating to see the difference in them when they graduate. It's a good feeling," Guillen said. "I'm proud to be an MP, because we help our communities and assist when needed."
Guillen said she is most looking forward to the Regimental Run scheduled for Sept. 24.
"I can't wait to participate in the run. It is so motivating," she said.
Dooley said the event he is looking forward to the most is the Regimental Retreat scheduled for 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Maneuver Support Center of
Excellence plaza.
"The most significant event during Regimental Week, for me, is the Regimental Retreat, which is our most recent addition to the week's events. This ceremony showcases our diverse military police formations, while conducting one of our most basic and significant military traditions," Dooley said. "Most military personnel equate retreat with signaling the end of the duty day. While that is true, it should also be a time of reflection that reminds us who we are and who we represent -- it is a simple, and poignant, moment in time to pay respect to our flag, our freedom and service to our country."
