WIESBADEN, Germany -- It's not something in the water -- it's something in the WARRIOR.

In the dozen years since Armywide annual Soldier of the Year and NCO of the Year competitions began, Army in Europe Soldiers have been earned those titles six times.

That statistic means USAREUR has produced 25 percent of the total 24 winners at Army level.

The most recent winner was Staff Sgt. Matthew Senna of the 7th Army NCO Academy, named Army NCO of the year in 2012. But the winners' list goes back to the very beginning, when Spc. Justin Brown of the 95th Maintenance Company was named the very first Army SOldier of the Year in 2002. In 2005 Sgt. Jeremy Kamphuis of USAREUR's 127th Military Police Company earned the Army NCO of the Year title, and the following year Spc. John Emmett of 21st Theater Sustainment Command was Army Soldier of the Year. In 2009 and 2010 USAREUR claimed back-to-back Army NCO of the Year honors. Another 7th Army NCO Academy Soldier, Sgt. 1st Class Aaron Beckman, was 2009 NCO of the Year, and the 2010 NCO of they Year was Staff Sgt. Christopher McDougall of U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart (although he represented the Army's National Capital Region in the competition).
