FORT RILEY, Kan. -- The Logistics Readiness Center-Fort Riley, 407th Army Field Support Brigade, conducted a food drive in support of the "Feds Feed Families" Food Drive Campaign on Aug. 22, collecting about 366 pounds of food.

The campaign is a Department of Agriculture led program that ran nationally from June 1 to Aug. 27. During the entire campaign, the unit donated 556 pounds of food to Fort Riley-area food banks.

Senior leaders from LRC-Riley participated, with some even volunteering to serve as targets in the dunk tank to entice interest in the cause. Not even the 99-degree heat would keep employees away from the opportunity to dunk Larry Githerman, director of LRC-Riley.

Federal workers have collected and donated 24.1 million pounds of food and other non-perishable items to support families across the United States since the campaign began in 2009.

Last year, Feds Feed Families collected nearly 9 million pounds of food, asking agencies to set their own goals and try to top their previous best. All federal agencies were encouraged to participate in the annual campaign.

The LRC-Riley is one of 73 logistics readiness centers that fall under the Army Sustainment Command, headquartered at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois.
