The Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, one of eight centers of excellence in the U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command, has published a leader development strategy that addresses the frameworks and competencies that enable Maneuver Support men and women to assure the mobility, freedom of action, and protection of Army units in unified land operations.

The Maneuver Support Leader Development Strategy is a brief document that is relevant to junior and senior leaders from the Engineer; Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear; and Military Police regiments and addresses expectations in the institutional, operational and self-development domains as well as important aspects of The Army Profession including character, competence and commitment.

"This document gives a first-time codification and picture of how the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence develops or enables the regiments as they develop the leaders of today and tomorrow," said Maj. Gen. Leslie Smith, MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general.

The strategy is nested with the Army's Leader Development Strategy and has been one of Smith's top priorities since arriving at Fort Leonard Wood in 2013.

The document also includes Smith's recommended reading list including works such as "It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership" by Colin Powell and "The Generals: American Military Command from WWII to Today" by Thomas Ricks.

"The MSCoE leader development strategy is extremely important. We have to develop those who will replace us in the future," said Command Sgt. Maj. Terrence Murphy, MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood command sergeant major.

The MSLDS focuses on development of agile, adaptive leaders, and has appendixes for each of the three regiments. It can be viewed on the Fort Leonard Wood website, www.wood.army.mil, under the Command Info and Policies link.
