Describe your current position:

I am a procurement analyst for the 918th Contingency Contracting Battalion at Mission and Installation Contracting Command-Fort Carson, Colorado. I am responsible for managing the Standard Procurement System and many of the electronic programs used by our office. I provide technical, functional and administrative support to a team of 65. My position allows me to wear many hats every day. No two days are ever alike. I write and run reports in various business intelligence programs. I manage wide area work flow and electronic document access, the Federal Procurement Data System-Next General, and Administrative Data Processing equipment. And I'm a warranted contracting officer. I ensure our contract data reporting is accurate, am on the contract closeout team, and will occasionally perform contract reviews. I'm also the primary contracting officer for the $25,000 Government Purchase Card Program. I also serve as the unit information management officer and information assurance officer.

Describe your passion for the job:

I love it when I am able to fix a problem or provide a solution to an issue. I also love the challenges that working in contracting brings. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new and to make a difference in someone's life.

Where do you call home? Do you have family?

Although I've lived in Colorado for 22 years, I still call California home. I was born and raised in California and North Carolina. My mother still lives in Hayward, California, and I try to visit her at least once or twice a year. When I'm in town, I also try to visit my sister, grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. It's always a family reunion when I go. My husband, Russ, and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. We have three children, a daughter and two sons, who are all grown and in relationships of their own. We have been blessed with a beautiful granddaughter and two handsome grandsons.

How does your job support the warfighter?

Contracting's mission is about getting the warfighter the tools needed to get the job and mission accomplished through contracting support. I may not be "on the front lines," but I support those who are. I provide the resources my customers need. Whether it's making sure they have the access to the programs that create the contracts or approving the purchase request for the GPC cardholder, I make sure others have the tools they need to do their jobs.

What would you like others to know about you?

Outside the contracting office, I volunteer and have my own business. I'm active in local area labor movements and love to spend time with my granddaughter. I volunteer at a number of organizations, including a food co-op, unloading and distributing produce, and many charitable organizations. I regularly walk on local trails and through national parks, participate in 5Ks, and enjoy fishing. Colorado is a beautiful state, and I love exploring it. But most of all, I love to experiment in the kitchen, trying new recipes and creating my own.
