WASHINGTON (Aug. 27, 2014) -- The U.S. Army Military District of Washington presents the 2014 Spirit of America, a highly visual, live-action U.S. Army show taking place September 12 and 13 at TD Garden in Boston, Mass., September 19 and 20 at the Times Union Center, Albany, N.Y. and September 26 and 27 at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa.

This year's show received its final validation by Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, Joint Force Headquarters - National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington commanding general, during a full dress rehearsal at Fort Belvoir, Va. Once validated, MDW's 2014 Spirit of America production is ready for public viewing.

"This being my first time taking part in Spirit of America, I'd have to say that I'm most excited about being able to convey the history of our nation's military in a fun and engaging manner," said Spc. Ricardo Martins, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) infantryman and Spirit of America announcer. "Not only does our performance span the ages of the history of our country but I believe it'll easily appeal to audience members of all ages as well."

During the show, Soldiers in historical uniforms re-enact key moments in U.S. Army and American history. The re-enactments include battle scenes with short periods of simulated gunfire and performances by the Army's elite ceremonial units.

The show features the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" and Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), the oldest active-duty infantry unit in the Army. Elements of The Old Guard include the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, the Caisson Platoon, the Commander-in-Chief's Guard, the Continental Color Guard and the U.S. Army Drill Team.

"Mainly I'm looking forward to meeting and educating those who attend our shows about the relevance and impact that our Army and Soldiers have had over the years," said Martins. "After having the honor of being stationed with the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) for the last two years, it's amazing how much more respect I have for our veterans and the actions of all those men and women who served before."
